Since Shadbolt was founded in 1884, we have specialised in the production of high quality and bespoke veneer items. From the company’s beginnings offering marquetry items and patterned veneer layons. To the furniture trade we have built on this heritage and continued to innovate. We now offer a number of veneer services from full veneer management across projects to bespoke veneer joinery items.
LATEST PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES
Working with veneer has evolved dramatically over the years, from rows of veneer benches stretching the whole length of the factory floor to today’s latest veneer preparation machinery allowing veneer layons to be produced quickly, accurately and to the highest possible standard.
Shadbolt has always invested in the latest production techniques, the most recent being a laser cutter, allowing the most detailed veneer patterns to be cut with an unrivalled accuracy to form intricate and detailed patterns and layons. However, even with this investment we recognise that veneer preparation is a craft that requires time and skill so we still maintain the veneer benches for our experienced craftsmen working on the most complex projects.
CUSTOM VENEER POSSIBILITIES
As well as the production of veneer layons, our new laser also has the ability to cut intricate panels out from veneered sheets to produce bespoke veneer panels. In addition, it also has the ability to etch and burn patterns onto the veneer which gives us the ability to create bespoke designs of anything from logos, text, designs and even photographs directly onto the veneer. This has allowed us to provide clients with a variety of products such as meeting room signage, feature panels for mock ups and a clients logo on meeting room tables. It can even be used to etch onto glass so even a doors vision panel can become a feature in itself. The possibilities are endless and limited only by your imagination.

With our arge stock of veneer, specialist veneer team and our in-house experience passed down through multiple generations working in the business, we are able to offer an unrivalled veneer management service for your project.
We are able to source veneer to match your project specific requirements, even sourcing veneer with certain specific criteria such as very straight grain, or very pronounced crown veneer peaks for instance.
IN-PERSON VENEER SELECTION
We often host clients and other interested parties on a project in our factory where we host veneer selections allowing the client to select the veneer they want used on their project, ensuring they get exactly what they want and making sure that even the most specific and detailed design specifications are met.
VENEER GRADING
We offer a veneer grading service where we work with our clients to ensure that they are able to grade the veneer as it is turned through and manage it so that favoured or grade A veneer is used on the most prestigious area of the project, for instance reception or common areas, with the grade B veneer used specifically for internal apartment doors and even grade C veneer reserved for back of house areas. We are even able to have grade A veneer on the face of a door opening into a reception area and grade C veneer on the reverse of that door to the back of house area if that is what is required.
